2009 NIGHT OF A THOUSAND DINNERS®

Adopt-A-Minefield's 2009 Night of a Thousand Dinners is here!

night of a thousand dinners, dinner party, young peopleNight of a Thousand Dinners (N1KD) is an annual, global event that raises awareness and funds for Adopt-A-Minefield®. Launched in 2001, N1KD dinners have been held in over 50 countries around the world, with tens of thousands of participants raising millions of dollars for mine action. What started as a one-night event turned into a month-long series of events that took place between March 1, commemorating the day the Mine Ban Treaty went into effect, and April 4, identified by the United Nations as the International Day for Landmine Awareness.

2009 is a critical year for landmine clearance. It is the 10th Anniversary of the Comprehensive Mine Ban Treaty and in November, the countries who signed the treaty will come together in Colombia to review the efforts of the last 10 years. At this meeting, the treaty signers must show that they have cleared their own land.

So, we made Night of a Thousand Dinners a bit different this year. Again, thousands of compassionate individuals will participate in this caring tradition of hosting dinners to rid the world of landmines and assist survivors in rebuilding their lives. But this year, in an effort to galvanize massive action for the 10th Anniversary of the treaty, these dinners will not occur on a single night – or even over a month. Instead, Night of a Thousand Dinners will begin on March 1 and last until the nations meet in Colombia on December 4th.

By dining, you and your guests are helping to clear minefields, save lives, and provide essential resources for survivors of landmine explosions. So, lift up your glass and toast to a world free of landmines!
