Night of a Thousand Dinners® is an initiative of Adopt-A-Minefield® (AAM), a program of the United Nations Association of the USA, in partnership with AAM Canada, AAM UK and AAM Sweden. It began as an opportunity for people all over the world to come together on a single night, enjoy a meal and help solve the global landmine crisis. N1KD has now evolved to include any kind of gathering – a cocktail party, barbeque, wine tasting, tea party, luncheon, clambake, etc. – between March 1 and April 4 every year.
A simple concept - gathering with friends and family and building a global community to support a common cause – Night of a Thousand Dinners has energized tens of thousands of caring citizens and has grown into an international phenomenon! Since its launch in 2001, thousands of gatherings have been held in over 50 countries raising millions of dollars for mine action.
Between March 1 and April 4, people from around the world will gather with family, friends, neighbors and colleagues in their homes, restaurants, community centers and other venues to enjoy a meal and raise urgently needed funds for landmine removal and survivor assistance.
It’s fun, creative and meaningful
As a host, you organize the meal and invite the guests. Create your own favorite dishes, choose from the delectable recipes available on this site, or just keep it simple and order pizza. Instead of bringing wine, flowers, or dessert, each of your guests is asked to make a donation to help the landmine cause. This Web site offers tools to facilitate the success of your dinner. Hosts can use the site tools to download a host kit, send invitations, manage guest information, and try international recipes and party theme ideas. N1KD gives people everywhere an opportunity to make a difference. Join this global community and take a step toward clearing a path to a safer world - become a HOST!
